This year the girls soccer team is saying goodbye to an old friend and hello to a new one. Former coach Carmen Morales has stepped down from her position as the head coach of Westside High school girls soccer team. Her reason for stepping down was simple, “I had too much on my plate,” she said. “I had a choice to make. I had to decide what was important to me, coaching or teaching. Swimming, anatomy classes, flag football, soccer, and my travel team all at once was to much. Being a good teacher is what really matters to me.” Said Morales. When asked for advice for the new coach she said, “Be patient. This area has little soccer talent. They didn’t listen any advice I gave them so be ready to repeat things over and over.” Hopefully this advice helps new head coach Shelby Cunningham as she steps up to coach soccer this year for the first time in her life. “I played club soccer in middle school, never played nor coached high school, but I’m looking forward to it.” Said Cunningham. When asked about the upcoming season she said, “It’s going to be a fresh start for the girls soccer program. We hope  to expand our horizons and I am looking for players who are energetic, have a positive attitude, ready to learn, and willing to be on a team.”. Girls soccer conditioning should start somewhere in mid-October and the team is looking for ball boys/water boys. An assistant coach hasn’t been chosen so see coach Cunningham for questions about girls soccer.
