Recently, there has been a big problem with LGBTQ+ rights, but there is an even bigger problem now. There is a place that now allows the punishment of stoning LGBTQ+ people to death. It is now a law that when broken is punishable by death. “Anyone found guilty of the offenses will be stoned to death, according to a new penal code based on Sharia law, an Islamic legal system that outlines strict corporal punishments” (CNN News).
It may go against the morals of some people who don’t agree with homosexuality, but they are people too and that’s one thing that a lot of people forget. It’s not right that they have to die for being who they are. It is a different place all together, but can you imagine being stoned to death for being the way you are? This situation needs more attention than it’s getting, even celebrities are trying to do something to help. “The controversial proposal has provoked strong opposition in some quarters, and actor George Clooney called for the immediate boycott of hotels owned by the Brunei Investment Group, which is controlled by the Sultan of Brunei, in an op-ed he wrote for Deadline” (CNN News).
This is a very cruel thing that most people don’t agree with. “‘Pending provisions in Brunei’s Penal Code would allow stoning and amputation as punishments — including for children, to name only their most heinous aspects,’ Rachel Chhoa-Howard, Brunei researcher at Amnesty International, wrote in a statement this week” (CNN News). Many people are planning to boycott the hotels that belong to the Sultan of Brunei. Please spread the word if you don’t support the stoning of the LGBTQ+ community in Brunei or anywhere that has similar views.
