An Opinion Piece: Diets Slowly Kill People.

Rico Lewis

All bodies are made differently, to the way we store fat, to our biological clocks for sleep and eating; the body is important, and we must take good care of it.

However, when the mind disagrees with the body, mental health is put at risk and physical health suffers additionally. Body image is one example of this, people who diet typically want to lose weight because they feel shame when looking at their body.

Yet, these diet cycles that claim to help you only kills you slowly, mentally, and physically, ultra limiting diets does more harm than good and must be discouraged for the sake of lives. “Certain diets should only be used for a short period of time, otherwise they are dangerous to health” and “There are diets where your blood sugar gets too low” said Freedieting.

“Diets don’t work – dieters don’t lose weight in a lasting way…Dieting disrupts normal body processes…Dieting leads to disordered eating and is the primary precursor for eating disorders” (Student Wellness). In addition, Berkeley.org says that the body is forced to starve while energy to do anything decreases significantly.

So, maybe we should relook the way we view food. As dieting leads many people into a life threatening cycle. These ultra limiting diets are not worth the pain.

People are better off following their natural body processes.
