What it’s like taking AP classes at Westside
November 16, 2022
Hello, I’m Porsha Miller, a junior here at Westside taking AP Biology. One thing to say for sure is that AP classes aren’t easy. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. To even take any AP class, you must be approved by your counselor. Many different AP courses require certain classes to be taken; for example, to even take AP Biology, you must have already completed Algebra, standard Biology, and Chemistry. AP classes are a big win or lose. They can either make or break your GPA. If you aren’t going to be consistent, DON’T DO IT!
When you are assigned to an AP teacher, you are also assigned a location where you’ll test and get most of your materials. My testing location is Stanton College Preparatory; if I need any hands-on help that my online teacher cannot offer me, then I would reach out to them. In your AP classes, your teachers do their absolute best to help you. Your AP teacher cares about you and your grades; they offer so many resources to help, even with your mental health if you begin to feel discouraged and down.
To be fairly honest, I wouldn’t recommend just anyone taking these classes. These classes are worth college credits and are heavily weighted. However, if you feel up to the challenge, do it. I personally believe AP classes are a good way to familiarize yourself with college course material, which can prepare you greatly for the future.
