April Marks Health Awareness Month

April is quickly approaching, the month that celebrates National Health Awareness. I’ve chosen to share some life advice with you in my contributions to this month.

There is one acronym you should keep in mind in the event of a bleeding emergency: ABC.

A- notify the emergency services. ( call 911)

B- Determine where the bleeding is occurring.

Compression is the third step; press down and apply pressure to the wound.

You must be able to identify a life-threatening injury in a situation like this; these include cuts, wounds, or punctures. These wounds necessitate prompt action; in this situation, you must move quickly if bright red blood is visible. If you are unable to apply a tourniquet due to this injury, you must take quick action to apply a tourniquet using a belt, shirt, or other tie-able object.

Knowing how to recognize wounds is crucial because you might be able to save a life by doing so. Avulsion, laceration, puncture, and abrasion are the four different types of injuries. A laceration is a deeper cut with significant bleeding, whereas an abrasion is a minor cut or scrape. Objects can cause puncture wounds, which are tiny holes, and avulsions, which are tears in the skin and underlying tissues.

Knowing simple wounds and the ABC acronym can help you save a life or even your own. Knowing wounds and their seriousness helps with bandaging and stopping bleeding.
