Interview with Mrs. McRae

Terrence Neal

Q: First off, How’s your day?

A: It sucked.

Q:How long have you been a counselor?

A: 2 years, ever since 2020

Q: How do you like being a counselor here at Westside so far?

A: So far, I could say I actually enjoy working here with the kids, even though they’re hardheaded, I do like it.

Q:Why did you chose to become a counselor?

A: I was a social worker first, i worked at The Department of Children and Families,  and I realized my love for children, but I wanted to work on the positives side away from child abuse. So I went back to college to get a masters degree in counseling and I started at Summerset Academy, a charter school K-8. And then I came to Westside to work with high school kids.

Q: Did you choose to be over dual enrollment, if so why?

A: I initially did not do it, but I’m glad I got the opportunity to work with kids that want to pursue a higher education.

Q: What is the craziest thing you’ve dealt with while being a counselor?

A:  Watching 2 parents fighting in the front of the school, over their daughters fighting. Both parents were talking “trash” about the others daughter and when they showed up in person, they got to swinging right in the office.
